RRAC's LSUA (2-1), OLLU (1-1), TAMUT (1-1) complete second day of the NAIA Softball Opening Round

WACO, Texas (May 12, 2026) – LSU Alexandria (2-1), Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) (1-1), and Texas A&M-Texarkana (1-1) completed the second day of the Opening Round of the 45th Annual NAIA Softball National Championship. All three teams will continue competing on May 13.
 
Moving to the Chickasha, Okla., bracket, second-seed LSU Alexandria won two run-rule games today to improve to 2-1 in the second day of the Opening Round. The Generals defeated fifth-seed Friends (Kan.) 10-1 (five innings) and Morningside (Iowa) 11-3 (six innings). LSUA will play Science and Arts (Okla.) on May 13 at 1 p.m.
 
The Generals scored in each of their four innings. First, a groundout from Kilee Moody sent Sophia Romero home.
 
In the second inning, Lainee Bailey hit a solo home run, and Ryleigh Moran scored on an error to give the Generals a 3-0 lead.
 
LSUA added four runs in the third inning. Moody got the rally started with a single to score Romero. Kaetlyn Dunbar doubled to send Moody home. Bailey followed with her second home run of the game, and Dunbar also came home to put the Generals ahead at 7-0.
 
The Falcons added their first and only run in the fourth inning. A groundout from Regan Witt with the bases loaded scored Ezra Arredondo.
 
On a stolen base from LSUA's Romero, Alyssa Soileau came home on an error from the catcher. Moody hit a two-run home run that also sent Romero home.
 
A scoreless fifth from Friends closed out the game early with the Generals taking the 10-1 win.
 
Romero led LSUA with three hits and three runs. Moody had two hits, two runs, and four RBIs. Bailey notched two hits, two runs, and three RBIs. Rylee Guillot (11-1) took the win after four innings and two strikeouts. For Friends, Arredondo went 1-for-2 and scored the only run. Jenna Ormiston (15-14) took the loss.
 
Next, in their second game of the day, the Generals defeated Morningside 11-3. LSUA turned in a six-run rally in the third inning and a five-run rally in the sixth to account for all its points.
 
The Mustangs scored first in the third after a single from Josie Hernandez brought in Amber Dougherty. The Generals answered with hits from Romero, Moody, Bailey, Jillian Howell, and Caitlyn Riche, scoring Haley Fontenot, Romero, Moody, Dunbar, and Jaycie O'Conner. A groundout from Julia Kwakernaak scored Shelby Vitrano to put the Generals ahead 6-1.
 
A scoreless fourth and fifth inning followed, with two runs from Morningside in the sixth. Emma Barwick hit to right field, and both Ashlyn Caniglia and Ali Fletcher scored.
 
Fontenot started the rally in the sixth after reaching base on an error by the shortstop that sent Moran home. Romero, Fontenot, and Rylee Theriot scored, and with the bases loaded, a walk from Moody scored Theriot to end the game early, giving the Generals the 11-3 win.
 
Bailey (18-7) started in the circle and led the offense. She pitched four innings and struck out two to earn the win. The Mustangs were led by Mackenzi Harrel, who went 2-for-3. Morgan Secora (16-8) suffered the loss.
 
Bailey and Moody each led LSUA with two RBIs.
 
Meanwhile, in the Ashland, Ore., bracket, second-seed Texas A&M-Texarkana fell to top-seed Southern Oregon in the second day of play. The Eagles lost 9-2 against the Raiders and are now 1-1, while SO improves to 2-0. TAMUT will play on Wednesday at 11 a.m. against fourth-seed Dordt (Iowa). 
 
The Knights put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first after a hit from Brooke Nordahl scored Kalea Thomas. SO added three more runs in the second after singles from Vanessa Lang and Lexi Ramirez sent Elysia Duarte, Lang, and Thomas home to lead 4-0.
 
After a scoreless third and fourth inning, the Eagles put their first run on the board. It came after a single from Mackenzie Williams hit to left, and Jaquelyn Schmidt came home.
 
SO's Kiersten Grotewiel doubled for the Knights, and Ramirez scored to close out the fifth inning with the 5-1 lead. The Eagles scored in the seventh inning after an error from the shortstop. Brenna Turbeville added the run to finish the game with the 5-2 loss.
 
TAMUT was led by Williams, who went 2-for-4 with a run. Alexis Snyder (13-7) suffered the loss after starting the game and pitching two innings, while striking out three. The Knights were led by Thomas, who went 2-for-4, adding two runs. Ayla Davies (25-7) secured the complete-game win while striking out four.
 
Turning now to the Klamath Falls, Ore., bracket, second-seed Our Lady of the Lake lost a nailbiter to top-seed Oregon Tech 2-1 on the second day. The Saints, now 1-1, will play Dickinson State (N.D.) on May 13 at 1 p.m.
 
The Owls closed out the first inning with a run after Addison Kachnik singled to send Nita Cook home. OT added its second run in the second inning. Cook grounded out, and Hayden Rockwell scored.
 
The Saints added their first run in the fourth on a solo home run from Lilly Rocha. In the fifth, OLLU threatened, but ended up leaving three on base.
 
The Saints again left three on base in the bottom of the seventh to end with the 2-1 loss.
 
OLLU's Arianna Alejandro led with two hits. Annika Litterio (25-8) pitched five innings, striking out three and taking the loss. For the Owls, Cook and Kachnik recorded one RBI each. Alli Parker (13-1) struck out three for the win, and Kristine Schmidt (Sv 3) earned the save with 2.2 innings pitched and two strikeouts.
