NAIA Baseball Opening Round enters second day featuring LCU (1-0), LSUS (1-0), LSUA (0-1), A&M-Victoria (0-1), OLLU (0-1)
WACO, Texas (May 11, 2026) – Louisiana Christian and LSU Shreveport win, while LSU Alexandria, Our Lady of the Lake (Texas), and Texas A&M-Victoria lose their first games of the Opening Round of the 69th Annual Baseball Tournament Championship.
Second-seed Louisiana Christian defeated third-seed Marian (Ind.) 4-3 in the Lawrenceville, Ga., bracket. The Wildcats put the first run on the board in the second inning after Matthew Cody hit a solo home run. In the fourth, both teams scored a run. The Knights added their run after a double from Cole McManus sent Zach Bale home. LCU's Harrison Waxley scored twice, and Drake Aldridge scored, giving the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. The game remained 2-1 through the ninth inning until Marian's Landon Sarkey singled to score Nathan Pinarski. River Pecina followed with a double to the right that scored Sarkey, putting the Knights ahead 3-2. However, with Caleb Brown on second, Gavin Vordick hit a walk-off home run to win the game 4-3.
LCU's Cody and Aldridge both went 2-for-4, and Vordick added two RBIs. Owen Simoneaux (5-1) earned the win after pitching in relief. The Knights were led by Bale, who went 2-for-5. Jack Peine (1-3) took the loss after pitching 2.1 innings.
The Wildcats will face Georgia Gwinnett on May 12 at 3 p.m.
Top-seed LSUS defeated fourth-seed Oklahoma Wesleyan 5-4 in the Shreveport, La., bracket. The action began in the second inning, when a hit by the pitcher sent LSUS' Makana Olaso to first, and Evan Gant scored. Quaterrion Walton's sac bunt brought Vega home, giving the Pilots a 2-0 lead. Oklahoma Wesleyan responded in the third with a run from Wally Diaz, narrowing LSUS's lead to 2-1. In the sixth inning, the Pilots extended their advantage as Rodrigo Bravo doubled, allowing Nathaniel De La Cruz and Carlos Sanchez to score for a 4-1 margin. The Eagles rallied in the eighth, beginning with a solo home run from Gilbert Morales. Daurys Manzanillo doubled, bringing in Diaz and Jo'elvis Fernandez, and the game was tied 4-4. Walton then scored the winning run for the Pilots, sealing their victory.
LSUS was led by Dorien Jackson, who went 2-for-4, and Rodrigo Bravo, who tallied two RBIs. Jacobo Gallegos (6-1) secured the win in relief after pitching 1.1 innings. The Eagles were led by Manzanillo, who went 3-for-5, adding two RBIs. Austin Stephenson (6-3) suffered the loss after pitching one inning.
Third-seed LSUA suffered a 7-0 shutout against second-seed Tennessee Wesleyan in the Kingsport, Tenn., bracket.
Carter Fabre (8-3) took the loss after pitching four innings. The Bobcats were led by Josh Shelly, who went 2-for-3, adding two runs and three RBIs. Justin Jackson (11-1) earned the win after pitching a complete nine-inning game and striking out 10.
The Generals will face fifth-seed William Woods on May 12 at 11 a.m.
In the Lewiston, Idaho, bracket, second-seed Texas A&M-Victoria fell to third-seed Hope International (Calif.) 6-0.
Jonathan Jones (12-4) suffered the loss after pitching the nine-inning complete game and striking out six. Scoring for the Royals were David Shackelford, Isaiah Lane, Hunter Essang (2), David Allen, and Royce Clayton. Josh Landry (11-3) secured the win after pitching a complete game and striking out nine.
The Jaguars will play top-seed Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) on May 12 at 2:30 p.m.
Fourth-seed OLLU lost to top-seed Johnson (Tenn.) 20-10. Johnson's Travis Hobbensiefken singled, bringing JJ Menesini home for the first run. OLLU's Diego Zuniga homered in the second inning, tying the game 1-1. Johnson then led 2-1 in the third, as Christian Altamirano scored on Luke Wilson's hit. The Royals gained momentum in the fourth inning, scoring five runs. Edwin Olmeda Jr., Joseph Brown, Wilson, Menesini, and Hobbensiefken extended Johnson's lead to 7-1. The Saints responded in the fifth with four runs: Christian Martinez stood on second and Benjamyn Hovda on third when Drew Saucedo singled, scoring Hovda. A wild pitch brought Martinez home. Joshua Milton singled, scoring Saucedo. Zuniga's hit to the left scored Milton, cutting Johnson's lead to 7-6. In the sixth, Brett Atkinson singled, sending Hovda home, but the Royals added two more runs, from Hobbensiefken and Mitchell Birdsall, pushing their advantage to 9-6. OLLU's Aiden Gonzalez scored, and Juan Garcia's double brought Hovda home, keeping the Saints close at 9-8. The Royals took command in the seventh, rallying for seven runs: Birdsall, JJ Menesini, Wilson, Austin Menesini, and Joseph Brown made it 16-8. OLLU's Jack Kalisky homered to left in the eighth, scoring Milton, narrowing the deficit to 16-10. Johnson sealed the win with four more runs in the eighth, as Andrew Wilford, Birdsall, Brown, and Braden Frank scored for the 20-10 final.
Hovda led the Saints, going 4-for-4, adding three runs. Donovan Gamez (8-6) suffered the loss after pitching one inning. Johnson was led by Christian Altamirano, who went 4-for-4, adding two runs and three RBIs. Kaleb Townsend (3-2) secured the win after pitching five innings and striking out four.
OLLU will face top-seed Oregon Tech on May 12 at 1:30 p.m.
