NAIA Softball Opening Round Day One complete - LSUA (0-1), OLLU (1-0), TAMUT (1-0) continue on May 12
WACO, Texas (May 11, 2026) – Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) and Texas A&M-Texarkana won their games, while LSU Alexandria fell to wrap up the first day of the Opening Round of the 45th Annual NAIA Softball National Championship.
Earlier in the day, second-seed Texas A&M-Texarkana defeated third-seed St. Francis (Ind.) 5-4 in the Ashland, Ore., bracket. The game stayed scoreless through the third. The Cougars' Abbey Robakowski then homered, scoring Sam Baker and giving St. Francis a 2-0 lead. The Eagles responded with a run off a throwing error. Victoria Clayton reached base, and Isabel Ramos scored, narrowing the gap to 2-1. In the fifth, St. Francis added two more runs after Madyson Minnich tripled, sending Haylee Schott and Robakowski home. TAMUT answered as Madison Ruiz hit a triple to score Clayton and Kamryn Walker. Presley Humphrey then capitalized on a Cougar's error, reached first, and sent Ruiz home, tying the game at 4-4. The Eagles held the Cougars scoreless in the sixth and added another run. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Clayton singled to send Schmidt home. This proved to be the game-winning run, giving the Eagles a 5-4 victory.
Ruiz led the offense for the Eagles, going 1-for-4, adding a run and two RBIs. Alexis Snyder (13-6) secured the win after pitching in relief for two innings, while striking out four. St. Francis was led by Robakowski and Madyson Minnich, who each had two RBIs. Olivia Fuentes (15-3) suffered the loss after pitching 1.1 innings and striking out one.
TAMUT will play top-seed Southern Oregon at 1:30 p.m. on May 12.
Meanwhile, second-seed LSU Alexandria fell to third-seed College of Idaho 7-4 in the Chickasha, Okla., bracket. The Generals opened scoring in their game when Julia Kwakernaak doubled, and Kaetlyn Dunbar came home. In the third inning, the Yotes took over: Madelyn Powell's single scored Audrey Sweet, Lena Zahniser's sacrifice fly sent Kina Watts home, and Isabella Fazio's double brought Powell in, making it 3-1. The Eagles responded with their own three-run rally in the third. With Alyssa Soileau on third and Kilee Moody on second, Dunbar doubled, scoring Soileau. A wild pitch advanced Dunbar to third and brought Moody home, then Jillian Howell singled to send Dunbar across the plate, putting the Generals ahead 4-3. After a scoreless fourth, the Yotes tied it in the fifth on Chloe Fierchinger's single, scoring Powell. Hallie Campbell's double then plated Fierchinger and Fazio, giving Idaho a 7-4 lead and the win.
The Generals were led by Dunbar, who went 3-3, adding two runs and an RBI. Lainee Bailey (17-7) suffered the loss after pitching five innings and striking out two. Powell and Fazzio each had two runs for the Yotes, while Kina Watts (10-2) grabbed the complete-game win.
LSUA will match up against fifth-seed Friends (Kan.) on May 12 at 12 p.m.
Second-seed Our Lady of the Lake defeated third-seed St. Thomas (Fla.) 13-7 in the Klamath Falls, Ore., bracket. In their game, OLLU maintained composure after the Bobcats opened with four runs, including a grand slam from Jade Fayad that scored Christina Ortiz, Bailey LeGere, and Alahnis Berrios. The Saints answered in the second by adding two runs, narrowing the deficit to 4-2. Alyssa Guzman's single sent Yezenia Perez home, and Arianna Alejandro's hit allowed Caitlin Casas to score. The Bobcats added two more runs in the third via Emma Edwards and Maggie Kirk, extending their lead to 6-2. OLLU countered as Marisa Rosales homered, bringing Lilly Rocha home, then Novalee Gloria scored on a catching error, bringing the Saints to within one. In the fourth, both teams scored once: Berrios for St. Thomas and Reanna Aguirre for OLLU, and the Saints made it 7-6. In the fifth inning, the Saints surged ahead with five runs: Marina Litterio's double scored Casas, Alejandro's triple sent Litterio home, Aguirre hit a double to bring in Alejandro, and Rocha homered to score Aguirre. OLLU held the Bobcats scoreless in the sixth and added two more runs: Aguirre singled, Casas came home, then a hit from Casas scored Alejandro. The Saints secured the 13-7 win by shutting down the Bobcats in the top of the seventh.
Aguirre, Alejandro, and Rocha each went 3-for-5, and each had two runs. Aguirre and Alejandro added two RBIs, while Rocha tallied three. Rosales went 4-for-4 and added three RBIs. Valeria Vielma (11-3) earned the win after pitching three innings and striking out three. Fayad went 2-for-4 and tallied five RBIs for St. Thomas. Johana Magaldi (10-6) took the loss after pitching 4.1 innings.
OLLU is set to play Oregon Tech on May 12 at 1:30 p.m.
