OLLU claims three victories en route to RRAC softball tournament title

PINEVILLE, La. (May 4, 2026) – Our Lady of the Lake University used a decisive fourth inning and strong pitching from Valeria Vielma to defeat LSU Alexandria 5-3 on Monday, capturing the 2026 Red River Athletic Conference Softball Championship title. The Saints battled through three games on the day, winning an elimination game against Texas A&M-Texarkana before taking back-to-back victories over top-seeded LSU Alexandria. This performance secured their fourth RRAC tournament title.
 
Saints vs. Texas A&M-Texarkana, 7-2
 
The Saints set the tone early in the first two innings, scoring seven runs. Tania Rodriguez reached on a fielding error, allowing Lilly Rocha to bring home the first run. With two on, Novalee Gloria doubled down the left field line to score Rodriguez. 
Caitlin Casa then hit straight up the middle, enabling Gloria to come home and close the inning with a 4-0 lead.
 
Rodriguez doubled in the second, allowing Rocha and Alejandro to score.
 
Holding a 7-0 lead through the seventh, the Saints faced a late push by the Eagles, who managed to score twice. Kamryn Walker doubled, and Jaquelyn Hernandez crossed the plate. Then, Madison Ruiz's hit to right brought home Walker, ending the game with the Saints on top, 7-2.
 
Valeria Vielma (9-3) pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits, one unearned run, and one strikeout. Sarah Phillips suffered the loss, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing all seven runs.
 
Gloria went 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs. Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.
 
Our Lady of the Lake vs. LSU Alexandria, 10-5
 
LSU Alexandria reached the postseason finals 3-0, defeating opponents 32-2, including a 5-4 win over the Saints in Game 11.
 
The Saints set the tone early with Alejandro's triple. Aguirre walked, Rocha reached on an error, and Alejandro scored.
 
Leading 2-0, Rodriguez reached on an error, scoring Aguirre. Seventh batter, Yesenia Perez, singled to right, plating Rocha. Caitlin Casas reached on a fielder's choice, and Rodriguez scored on a throwing error.
 
Alejandro, up again, was hit with the bases loaded, sending Perez home. The Saints led 5-0.
 
The Generals scored after Romero tripled and Fontenot crossed the plate.
 
After a scoreless second inning, the Saints broke through in the third, adding three runs. Perez scored on Alyssa Guzman's groundout, and Aguirre's hit then drove Alejandro home. When Marisa Rosales blooped a ball to the pitcher, Aguirre seized the opportunity to score, putting the Saints ahead 8-1.
 
As the fourth inning unfolded, Livie Thibodeaux scored following a throwing error. Moody capitalized on another Saints' miscue, and Romero made it home too, narrowing the game to 8-3.
 
Aguirre tacked on another run in the fifth, extending OLLU's lead to 9-3. After a quiet sixth inning, Aguirre scored yet again, pushing the Saints further ahead at 10-3.
 
LSUA's Alyssa Soileau reached first on a Saints error in the seventh, and Kaetlyn Dunbar crossed home plate. Rylie Jeau Theriot quickly followed, sending Soileau home with a hit to the left. Despite this brief rally, it wasn't enough, and the Saints secured a 10-5 victory.
 
OLLU's Annika Litterio (25-7) earned the win after pitching a complete game. She added six strikeouts. LSUA's Guillot (10-1) suffered the loss after pitching 2.2 innings and allowing eight runs.
 
OLLU's Aguirre had a stellar game, going 3-for-4, adding four runs and an RBI. Rosales added three hits and two runs. Leading the way for the Generals was Jillian Howell, who went 3-for-4.
 
The game was not pretty, however, as the Saints logged five errors, and the Generals had four.
 
Our Lady of the Lake vs. LSU Alexandria, 5-3
 
After a scoreless four innings, LSUA scored. Riche doubled down the third-base line, and Moody scored for a 1-0 lead.
 
The Saints responded quickly. Rocha and Rodriguez singled. Rosales took advantage of a throwing error, moving Rodriguez to third and scoring Rocha.
 
Perez reached on an error. Gloria Rosales and Rodriguez both scored. Alejandro doubled, driving in Perez and Gloria. The Saints led 5-1.
 
The Generals scored twice in the sixth with Dunbar's two-run homer, also scoring Moody.
 
The Saints held the Generals scoreless in the sixth, and LSUA couldn't rally in the seventh. The final score reflected the Saints' 5-3 win.
 
Alejandro led, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Gloria went 2-for-3 with a run. Vielma (10-3) threw a complete game and struck out five. Bailey (17-6) pitched a complete game, striking out two. Moody led the Generals, going 3-for-4 with two runs.
 
Postseason
 
OLLU clinched the RRAC Softball Championship and will advance to the 45th Annual NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round, May 11-14 at campus sites. Qualifiers advance to the World Series at South Commons Complex in Columbus, Ga., May 21-27. LSUA also advances as the regular-season champions. Additional RRAC qualifiers will be announced soon.
