Texas A&M-San Antonio ends season with loss in the second round of nationals
WICHITA, Kan. (March 14, 2026) – Texas A&M-San Antonio ended its season with a second-round loss in the 2026 Women's Basketball Championship Tournament. Hastings (Neb.) won 100-73 and advances to the 45th Annual Women's Basketball National Championships in Sioux City, Iowa, starting March 19.
The Jaguars finished the 2025-26 season second in the RRAC with an 18-4 regular-season record and were runners-up in the postseason tournament. TAMUSA, in its second year, earned an automatic bid for its national debut under inaugural Head Coach Chris Minner, who marked his 500th win this month. The team beat Corban (Ore.) in the first round, 94-82.
The Jaguars leave nationals proud, knowing they played hard with Champions of Character attitudes that will help them return in future seasons.
TAMUSA's starting lineup—Jada Turner, Tamya Whitemon, Evelyn Lorenzo, Hailee Brandon, and Aniyah Lewis—set a determined tone. The Jaguars started slowly, missing several shots until Whitemon hit a three-pointer around the eight-minute mark. However, the Broncos responded by going up 18-8, then increased their lead to 24-10 with a 6-0 run. Late in the period, a pair of free throws from reserve Kierra Sanderlin and a three from Emily Carranco helped the Jaguars close the gap at quarter's end, with Hastings ahead 26-17.
Key shots from Turner, Brandon, and Zaadiyah Stovall moved the Jaguars to within seven points of the Broncos. The Broncos' fierce defense and shooting helped them regain a double-digit lead, 50-35, at the end of the half.
The Jaguars maintained hope into the third quarter, but Hastings' dominance became increasingly apparent. With about two minutes left in the period, the Broncos' lead stretched to 79-49, and they finished the quarter up 85-50.
The Jaguars scored six straight points but still trailed by 36 as Hastings maintained a 92-56 lead. With 28 seconds left, the Broncos reached the century mark. TAMUSA's Maya Simon hit a three-pointer, and the Broncos closed the game with a 100-73 victory.
