RRAC's Texas A&M-Texarkana ends season with NAIA First Round loss to Ave Maria
WICHITA, Kan. (March 13, 2026) – No. 14 Texas A&M University – Texarkana ended its 2026 season with an 84-62 loss to No. 3 Ave Maria (Fla.). The Eagles finished with an overall record of 20-11, while Ave Maria improved to 27-4 to advance to the Wichita Bracket Championship game (second round) to play No. 6 Friends (Kan.) on March 14 at 5 p.m. The champion will advance to the 88th Annual Men's Basketball National Championship, March 19-24, in Kansas City, Mo.
TAMUT started out strong, leading 7-2. A three from Jarren Cook moved the Eagles to 10-4, but the Gyrenes found their spark to take over after a 7-0 run to lead 11-10. Ave Maria continued to build its lead to 39-24 with five minutes left in the half. Several missed shots from the Eagles were capped off by a three-pointer from Jakari Livingston to end the period, trailing 47-33.
The Gyrenes took their biggest lead of the game, 11 minutes into the second half, at 68-48. The lead was too deep to overcome, and the game ended with the 84-62 loss for the Eagles.
Individual leaders
TAMUT was led by Daryl Houston, who contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jason Bush scored 11, and Jakari Livingston also added 11 off the bench.
Ave Maria's Michael Klekas scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Jaylen White added 17 points, and Alex Sherwood scored 11.
Team totals
Ave Maria tallied 42.6 percent from the field, 29.4 percent from three-point range, 88.9 percent from the free-throw line, 47 rebounds, 11 assists, and seven steals.
The Eagles made 39.7 percent of their field goals, 20.8 percent of their three-pointers, 61.1 percent of their free throws, and added 32 rebounds and 15 assists.
