Xavier Picks Up First RRAC Men's Soccer Championship after 2OT 1-0 Win Over LSU Shreveport

TEXARKANA, Texas (Nov. 12, 2025)- Xavier University of Louisiana prevailed through double overtime to defeat LSU Shreveport 1-0. With the win, the Gold Rush captures the 2025 Red River Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship this evening. 

This is the first tournament crown for the Gold Rush in their third season as part of the Red River Athletic Conference. In each of their three seasons, they qualified for the postseason – in 2023 as the third seed and last season, as the second seed, where they lost to Louisiana Christian in the finals, 2-0.

2025 RRAC Men's Soccer Championship Results

The match remained scoreless through the 109:48 minute, just 12 seconds before the end of the second overtime. Junior forward Artur Rubim scored on a pass from sophomore midfielder Antonio Merola.

The Pilots took 14 shots, while the Gold Rush finished with eight. LSUS' Jack Thomas led all players with six shots, four on goal. XULA's Iman Ouendraogo took five shots, all on goal.  XULA keeper Breno Zanolla recorded four saves, while LSUS' Sondre Liahagen-Kolnes tallied three.

The Gold Rush (13-4-2) will advance to the NAIA national tournament with an automatic berth, along with regular-season champion LSU Shreveport (13-2-5).
