WACO, Texas – Katie Pfannerstill and Ashley Westerman of Northwood University (Texas) were recognized as the Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 28-May 4 after they helped lift the Lady Knights to the RRAC Softball Championship last weekend.

Pfannerstill, a junior shortstop and third baseman from Coppell, Texas, was 5-for-8 at the plate as Northwood made a perfect 3-0 run through the conference postseason tournament. She opened by going 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs as the Lady Knights blanked College of the Southwest (N.M.), 8-0. Pfannerstill contributed a double and run scored in a 3-0 victory over Bacone before going 2-for-3 with an RBI in an 8-1 championship game victory over CSW. For the week, she compiled six runs scored, three RBIs and two walks.

Westerman, a junior pitcher from Godley, Texas, earned a win in each game of Northwood’s RRAC tournament contests and did not surrender a run in 15 innings of work. She hurled back-to-back two-hitters to open the tournament against CSW and Bacone. Westerman then threw three scoreless innings in the title game while scattering three hits. The RRAC Softball Pitcher of the Year, Westerman accounted for nine strikeouts and five walks.

Northwood advances to the NAIA Region VI tournament with an overall record of 33-19. The Lady Knights held the top seed in the tournament after finishing the conference season at 20-4.
