Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week
April 8, 2008


WACO, Texas –
Paula Davis of Northwood University (Texas) earned the Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week award for March 31-April 6, while her teammate, Ashley Westerman garnered the RRAC Softball Pitcher of the Week selection for the same dates.

Davis, a senior catcher from Farmersville, Texas, drove in nine runs last week as the Lady Knights won three of four games. She was 4-of-6 in a double-header sweep against Texas College with four RBIs. Then Davis went 4-for-7 at the plate with a home run and five RBIs as Northwood split a pair of games with Texas Wesleyan University. On the week, she scored three times and walked once with a stolen base. Northwood is tied for the top spot in the conference with an 11-3 mark and a 20-15 record on the season.

Westerman, a junior pitcher from Godley, Texas, earned two victories for Northwood last week while surrendering just one run on three hits. In a 22-1 defeat of Texas College, she allowed two hits while recording 11 strikeouts in five innings of work. Westerman followed with a one-hit shutout of TWU with seven strikeouts in seven innings.

Sasha Long of Bacone College (Okla.), TWU’s Ariel Raley and Ashley Turner of College of the Southwest (N.M.) were additional player of the week nominees. Bacone’s Krysta Hernandez and TWU’s Ashley Oldham were nominated for pitcher of the week.
