Turner, a senior shortstop from Placentia, Calif., had a perfect week at the plate, batting 7-for-7 in a double-header against Sul Ross State University (Texas). She was 4-for-4 in the first game with a triple and a pair of RBIs as CSW won, 16-6. Turner followed with three more hits in the next game with three runs scored as the Lady Mustangs claimed a 15-4 victory. In all, she scored six runs with two RBIs and a stolen base. CSW currently holds the top spot in the conference standings at 7-1 with a record of 13-14 on the season. Westerman, a junior pitcher from Godley, Texas, tossed 7 1/3 strong innings against Houston Baptist University (Texas) as Northwood earned a double-header split. In the opener, she allowed just one earned run in seven innings of work with seven strikeouts, but she took the 3-1 loss. Westerman was called on in the second game to get the final out, which she did against the first batter she faced. She earned the save in a 5-3 victory. Northwood is now 4-2 in conference play and 13-14 overall. Toni Lyles of Bacone College (Okla.), Northwood’s Alex Mesa and Ariel Raley of Texas Wesleyan University were additional player of the week nominees. Bacone’s Robin Chriestenson and TWU’s Ashley Oldham were nominated for pitcher of the week as well. -RRAC- |
